Arizona

Arizona, where the sun kisses the earth with a fiery embrace,
A land of ancient whispers, carved by time's hand,
Deserts stretch like golden seas, vast and wide,
Mountains rise like giants, casting shadows on the land.

The red rocks of Sedona, glowing in the twilight's hue,
Whirling spirals of energy, where spirits are born anew.
The Grand Canyon, an abyss of endless depth and grace,
A masterpiece etched by rivers, a timeless, sacred space.

In the saguaro's arms, the desert speaks,
With cacti standing like sentinels, proud and meek.
The Painted Desert, where colors dance on the wind,
A canvas of reds and purples, where horizons blend.

Antelope Canyon, where light finds its way,
Through narrow passages, in a soft ballet.
Havasu Falls, where turquoise waters fall,
A hidden oasis, nature's purest call.

The streets of Phoenix hum with life,
Yet in the silence of its canyons, peace cuts like a knife.
Tucson's sun sets low, painting skies so bright,
Turning mountains to shadows, igniting the night.

Arizona, a land of contrasts, rich and wild,
Where every step unveils wonders, both ancient and mild.
A place where the spirit finds its true way,
In the heart of the desert, where the earth and sky stay.

My personal stories

"We were meant to meet our taxi driver before dusk, who would drive us down the mountain on our way back from Monteverde. We arrived at last after sunset, delayed. The road had one lane on the mountain which makes sharp twists; add to this the fog-after all, it is a cloud mountain. Since the driver did not understand English, we were unable to express our apologies as he seemed very unhappy. He spoke just Spanish. He took off and started driving like a crazy man. My daughter was with us in the car and felt like she would puke up. I hoped we lived and prayed to all the Gods. All I could see was the steep drop on the sides. My daughter had taken AP Spanish in high school, and I recall often pushing her to practice speaking it and she would always claim its only designed for the classes. But, suddenly she starts talking in Spanish to the Driver, apologizes on our behalf, tells him our reason for being late, and they discuss his family and the reasons he believes driving later to be unsafe. Now I see him relaxing slowly and driving sensibly. Finally we reached and he passed my daughter her baggage and even bid her farewell in Spanish. Impressed, I questioned my daughter how she spoke so fluently after rejecting to speak spoken Spanish for so long.
She said "Mom, if you are about to die, the words just poured out" Lol
From what I learnt, language may be a barrier but also is a gift!

My Experiences

I did not see a single paved road and the people here are poor but very happy. When I asked them about this, they mentioned that happiness comes by living simply and by living in large families. They eat fresh food and fruits and often smile.
From lush forests, to hot springs to volcanoes and to the beaches, Costa Rica is a must visit and learning to be content is the most valuable lesson that I carry home!

Rome

Rome is Italy's capital and one of the world's most historic cities. For almost 2,500 years, the "Eternal City" has served as a hub of power, culture, and religion.

Key Highlights:

Ancient Rome: As the heart of the Roman Empire, Rome influenced much of Western civilization. The Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Pantheon are iconic buildings that bear witness to the city's imperial history.

Vatican City: An independent city-state enclaved within Rome, it is the spiritual center of the Roman Catholic Church and the residence of the Pope. St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel are located here.

Architecture and Art: Rome features architectural styles from the ancient Roman, Renaissance, Baroque, and current periods. It features works by Michelangelo, Bernini, and Raphael.

Modern City: Today, Rome combines the antique and contemporary. It's a thriving European center with dynamic neighborhoods, world-class gastronomy, and an active cultural scene.

The best time to visit Rome is during the spring (April to June) and fall (late September to early November).

Important Tips

  • Walk as much as possible—Rome's historic center is very walkable and full of hidden gems.
  • Use public transport (metro, buses, trams): buy tickets in advance at tabacchi shops or metro stations.
  • Book tickets in advance for major sights like the Colosseum, Vatican Museums, and Borghese Gallery to skip long lines.
  • Start your day early—popular attractions get crowded fast, especially around midday
  • Tipping is modest in Italy—round up or leave a few euros for great service.

Iceland

Driving the Ring Road is more than a road trip—it’s an unforgettable journey through some of Earth’s most surreal landscapes. Whether it’s the roar of waterfalls or the quiet beauty of the fjords, Iceland has a way of staying with you long after you’ve left!

Iceland is a region of stark contrasts—fire meets ice, and nature reigns supreme. This Nordic island nation is famed for its stunning landscapes, including towering waterfalls, black sand beaches, boiling geysers, volcanic craters, and gigantic glaciers. With a population of under 400,000, it provides both raw wildness and calm isolation. In the winter, the Northern Lights dance across the sky, while in the summer, the sun scarcely sets. From the dynamic city Reykjavik to the isolated highlands, Iceland is a sanctuary for adventurers, photographers, and anybody seeking the majesty of unspoiled nature.

National Park

Yellow Stone National Park

What makes it unique

This is America's first national park, and it seems like you're in a documentary. There are geysers, waterfalls, huge canyons, and wild creatures all throughout the place, like bison, elk, and even wolves if you're lucky.

Must Sees

Old Faithful erupts like clockwork (every 90 minutes).

Grand Prismatic Spring - Remember the massive rainbow-colored hot spring you saw in photos? It's real and far more colorful in person.

Lamar Valley - This is the location to go early in the morning to see bison herds and possibly wolves or bears from a distance.

The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is a beautiful canyon with waterfalls. Artist Point offers a "wow" view.

Mammoth Hot Springs - Otherworldly terraces that constantly vary due to geothermal activity.

White Sands National Park

What Makes It Unique:

Picture unending waves of pure white sand dunes that appear like snow. But it's really soft gypsum that stays chilly even in the sun. It feels like another planet, and it's quiet and surreal.

Must sees

Dunes Drive – 8-mile scenic drive into the heart of the dunes (great photo stops and trail access).

Visitor Center – Historic building with exhibits, maps, bathrooms, and sled rentals.

Sand Sledding – Most popular activity; best near mile markers 4–6. Use waxed plastic saucers.

Sunset & Stargazing – Stunning light over dunes; great for photography. Join ranger-led Sunset Strolls or Full Moon Hikes (seasonal).
