Rome
Rome is Italy's capital and one of the world's most historic cities. For almost 2,500 years, the "Eternal City" has served as a hub of power, culture, and religion.
Ancient Rome: As the heart of the Roman Empire, Rome influenced much of Western civilization. The Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Pantheon are iconic buildings that bear witness to the city's imperial history.
Vatican City: An independent city-state enclaved within Rome, it is the spiritual center of the Roman Catholic Church and the residence of the Pope. St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel are located here.
Architecture and Art: Rome features architectural styles from the ancient Roman, Renaissance, Baroque, and current periods. It features works by Michelangelo, Bernini, and Raphael.
Modern City: Today, Rome combines the antique and contemporary. It's a thriving European center with dynamic neighborhoods, world-class gastronomy, and an active cultural scene.
The best time to visit Rome is during the spring (April to June) and fall (late September to early November).
- Walk as much as possible—Rome's historic center is very walkable and full of hidden gems.
- Use public transport (metro, buses, trams): buy tickets in advance at tabacchi shops or metro stations.
- Book tickets in advance for major sights like the Colosseum, Vatican Museums, and Borghese Gallery to skip long lines.
- Start your day early—popular attractions get crowded fast, especially around midday
- Tipping is modest in Italy—round up or leave a few euros for great service.
